In the bachelor's thesis, students acquire the skills to apply scientific methods to solve a task from the field of Geodesy and Geoinformatics largely independently within a given period of time.
The bachelor's thesis is a thesis with an estimated workload of 360 hours corresponding to 12 credit points. The processing period, i.e. the period from the issue of the topic to the submission of the thesis, is a maximum of six months.
In the master's thesis, students acquire the skills to apply and further develop scientific methods to solve a complex task in the field of Geodesy and Geoinformatics and related fields within a given deadline.
The Master's thesis is a thesis requiring approximately 900 hours of work, corresponding to 30 credit points. There is no deadline for starting the thesis. As a rule, the Master's thesis is written in the fourth semester. The processing period, i.e. the period from the issue of the topic to the submission of the thesis, is six months.
Theses in the field of engineering geodesy
-
Possible topics:
- Calibration, georeferencing and validation of multi-sensor (kinematic) systems
- Quality assurance and uncertainty modelling of geodetic measurement processes
- Planning, realisation and evaluation of geodetic networks and/or reference point clouds
-
Helpful/Desired/Necessary previous knowledge depending on the topic:
- Programming experience (Matlab, Python or C++)
- Willingness to learn and work independently
- Interest in conducting and evaluating practical measurements
-
Why should you write your thesis at GIH?
- You will have the opportunity to conduct research relatively independently and make a significant contribution to work on current research questions. You will use the infrastructure of the Geodetic Institute, which will not only give you the opportunity to conduct research in a modern lab, but also provide you with access to a wide range of state-of-the-art sensors (including laser scanners, tachymeters, laser trackers and inertial measurement units).
- The practical application of what you learn will prepare you optimally for the job market.
- The contribution of your own ideas is expressly encouraged and will be promoted accordingly.
- The supervision and writing of your thesis can be done flexibly in German or English Studies.
