Kinematic Measurement Processes in Engineering Geodesy

The module introduces additional and substituting characteristics of sensor systems in the field of engineering geodesy with the focus on kinematic measurement systems and tasks. Furthermore, the module covers the process chain for the data analysis starting from sensor’s raw measurement data and ending up with the processed results including representative uncertainty measures.

Upon successful completion of the module, the students will be able to understand current approaches of kinematic measurement processes in engineering geodesy and will have practice skills in related topics. The students are able to develop practical problem solutions and to transfer the general approaches from the lecture to various examples of applications in engineering geodesy with the focus on kinematic measurements tasks.

Module Contents

Topics and sensors covered:

  • Overview of recent sensors and sensor systems in engineering geodesy
  • kinematic measurement systems and geodetic monitoring tasks (fundamentals: measurement configurations und evaluation methods)
  • analysis of continuous measurement data (stochastic processes, time series, covariance analysis, Fourier analysis, outline of filter theory)
  • optimization of measurement configurations

In the lab work the students make use of practical examples to learn and deepen the

Module Contents:

  • control of an automatic tacheometer/ Total no of hours station
  • synchronisation of sensors with regard to their fusion in multi-sensor-systems for kinematic applications
  • Analysis and interpretation of typical data series

All the lab work goes along with reports where the students should discuss, interpret and judge their results with respect to the achieved measurement uncertainties.
