The Geodetic Institute at Leibniz University Hannover uses the Leica AT960-LR laser tracker for laboratory exercises in which students gain practical experience of the process and its applications. The institute also carries out contract work for external project partners. In the field of mechanical and plant engineering, characteristic shapes and parameters of large machine and tool parts are determined. Individual recording constellations are also evaluated using statistical analyses. In the field of robotics, the laser tracker is used to kinematically record the movement behaviour of industrial robots. Position changes can be continuously recorded in the large working area of the laser tracker. The high temporal and spatial resolution makes the method ideal for calibrating industrial robots.
