Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alkhatib was awarded his PhD in June 2007 for his thesis entitled “On Monte Carlo Methods with Applications to Current Satellite Gravity Missions” at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, where he worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformation in the “Theoretical Geodesy” department.
Since September 2007, he has been working at the Geodetic Institute of Leibniz University Hannover, where he heads the research group “Expert-Supported Data Analysis and Quality Processes”.
In October 2020, he submitted his habilitation thesis, “Advanced Methods and Algorithms for Computer-Aided Geodetic Data Analysis”, in the field of geodetic data processing methods and engineering geodesy.
His research and teaching focus on Bayesian modelling and Monte Carlo methods, uncertainty modelling in geodetic analysis methods, computational and simulation-based geodetic data analysis, and state-space filtering methods.
