Analysis of Deformation Measurements
The module provides in-depth knowledge in the detection, analysis and determination of deformations (change detection) from engineering measurement processes. Upon successful completion of the module, the students can analyze, evaluate and interpret synthetic and real data in different model approaches.
Module Contents
- Deformation monitoring measurement techniques (Levelling instruments, Image-assisted total stations, Terrestrial laser scanner, Laser tracker, Digital camera, Inertial measurement units, Strain gauge, Fiber optic, Hydrostatic water levelling, Extensometer, etc.)
- Planning, design, and accuracy requirements
- Deformation processes
- Point / linear / surface-based deformation monitoring
- Descriptive deformation models (congruence models, block movements, strain, kinematic model)
- Causal deformation models (static model, dynamic model)
- Estimation procedure
- Sensitivity analysis
- Evaluation and analysis strategies
- Practical examples in monitoring of natural phenomena (landslide) and civil structures (bridges, buildings, tunnels, dams, railway tracks, etc.)
