SIMULTANEOUS INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CALIBRATION OF LIDAR

Nowadays, lots of different low-cost and precise sensors are used in different applications. There are always two important aspects, namely internal and external calibration of the sensor which must be done in any application before the sensor data be used in any data analysis. Internal calibration refers to estimating sensor biases and systematic errors and by external calibration, you find the 3D transformation of the sensor in a platform coordinate system.

In this master thesis, you will specifically focus on the internal and external calibration of a Velodyne LiDAR.

 

You can start with this thesis if you:

  • Master Students of Geodesy and Geoinformatics (GuG), Navigation and Field Robotics (NuUR), Mechatronics and Robotics or similar.
  • Interested to work with sensors
  • Familiar with error propagation and adjustment theory
  • You know the concepts of 3D transformation
  • Have a good knowledge of programming (Matlab, C++, or Python)
